This page hopes to answer some questions you might have about how any information you provide to Lue Glover Wilson is used, why it is gathered and how it is protected.

GAINING YOUR CONSENT

I will need to collect some details about you in order to help with your concerns. These details will include both personal and sensitive data.  You also have the right to request a copy of your data as it is recorded. Your permission must be asked for in order to store and process your data.

WHAT IS PERSONAL AND SENSITIVE PERSONAL DATA?

Personal data is information which can be used to identify you.  This may include your name, date of birth, address, email address, telephone number etc.

Sensitive personal data is information which is related to the following: racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union memberships, health, sexuality or sex life, criminal offences or convictions.

WHERE WILL MY DATA BE STORED?

The information will be stored as a paper copy.  It will be held in a securely locked file in an office which will be locked. No personal data will be recorded or stored electronically.  Unidentifiable contact numbers will only be used on a dedicated mobile phone which is locked at all times except in use, and will be erased as soon as therapy concludes. Data will be stored for up to three years after the end of therapy, which is a condition normally required for insurance purposes.  You have the right to be ‘forgotten’ and have you data destroyed after this time period.

HOW WILL MY DATA BE USED?

Your data will primarily be used for the purpose of handling your case. It is necessary for the purposes of making contact, safeguarding and session planning if needed. Your anonymised data may also be used for the purposes of statistical monitoring or supervision.

CAN I WITHHOLD MY CONSENT?

Yes, you have the right to withhold your consent.  It is important to remember that it will be difficult to provided an effective service without it.

WHAT IS A DATA CONTROLLER?

A Data Controller is someone who is responsible for your data and who must make sure that your data is processed according to the law. For example, they are responsible for making sure that the information held about you is accurate and that it is kept secure. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act (GDPR) Lue Glover Wilson is a Data Controller.

WHY MIGHT MY PERSONAL AND SENSITIVE PERSONAL DATA BE SHARED?

Your personal and sensitive personal data may be shared with another therapist for the purposes of onward referral should it be agreed that this would be in your best interest and safety, or if it becomes impossible to continue with therapy due to the counsellor’s unfitness to provide it. In certain circumstances your data may also need to be shared, for example:

  • In order to protect a child, vulnerable adult, yourself or the public from harm or abuse.
  • For the prevention and detection of a crime.
  • If it is legal requirement of a court of law.
  • If there is disclosure about an act of terrorism.
